So as per usual..i’m scouring craigslist for a new ride. I’ve been looking at different vehicles for a while and I come upon this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Now, I call the guy because I think the deal is too good to be true and he tells me that his son got in a fender bender and it messed up the bumper and it doesn’t have any records of crashing because he didn’t have insurance because he didn’t have any money. So I send my dad to go look at it and he says at that’s needed are front and back bumpers and the frame isn’t bent or anything. Total price for new tires just like stated and fixing it up is about $1500. Everything else is in good condition. I know KBB isn’t the most accurate for my situation but for something like this it’s estimating about $15,000 if I decide it’s too much. Should I pull the trigger?

Something isn’t right, hideous color combo also.

Yeah, I don’t like it much but I think I might just hire someone to take a professional look at it and if everything seems normal other than the obvious fixes needed I think I might just get it.

The title may not be clean also, I rarely see 10 year old Jeeps selling for much less than that.

I just have a budget of around 15,000 and when I stumbled on this it was quite surprising. I am having my dad grab the vin though so he can send it to me to hopefully have someone run a vin check for me. Being on base right now doesn’t exactly make things super easy.

Is this to be a first car?

Oh no, I have an old 68 mustang back at home in houston and an old 03 malibu with about 320k on it and it just died on me when I was there on leave a few weeks ago. Have been wanting a jeep for a while now though and I was waiting for the malibu to die out.

Ok, good. I was going to say, an automatic lifted Jeep is a bad idea haha.
Salvage title probably?

I actually just checked the vin on NICB.org and nothing came up. It hasn’t been a total loss or a stolen vehicle so thats good! I’m gonna ask oppo if they can run a carfax as I don’t have an account.

No way in hell am I paying anything over a grand for a car from someone off CL who was driving said car around without insurance and wrecked it. Way too much sketch.

Yeah, I’m still being cautious. What much else can you do when you’ve run a carfax and everything has come out clear though? I called a friend who works at one of the big 4x4 mod shops there in houston to go look at the jeep tomorrow with my dad and bring it in to said shop to give it a complete look over before really considering getting it.

Car fax and the like are completely useless. Anyone who buys a $10k+ car and can’t afford insurance is either a complete moron or a sketch ass dude. I wouldn’t touch anything they had their hands on. Being from the SW, expensive 4x4 trucks on CL with damage and no insurance raise huge red flags. Make sure all the VINs match and that they match the title. Also make sure there isn't any mota hidden in it.
